What is Operation Holomorphosis?
In biology, the word holomorphosis – from the roots holo– whole, entire or complete and morphosis – development or change of form – means the complete regeneration of a lost part. Operation Holomorphosis is intended to be a grassroots movement, designed to regenerate the heart of Lady Liberty. It is a natural metamorphic process and if average people can learn the basic process that makes it work, it shouldn’t be that difficult to regenerate her heart. After all she has been through, the spirit of liberty is still with us all, right there in the heart of every human that wants to live free from unnecessary restrictions, free from arbitrary or despotic control and free to do what they know best to make their own living. All we need to do is to warm up and stir up that spirit, like a little heat warms and stirs up a solution of fermented liquid, which then releases the high-proof spirits of alcohol.
How to start the process
In order to start a movement, I need to be able to speak to people in their own language. I don’t just mean their first language, like English, Spanish or French. I mean a secondary language called “figurative language.” For example, when I said that Operation Holomorphosis is intended to be a grassroots movement, I assumed that everybody would know what that meant and that nobody would think I was speaking literally, about digging up actual grass, cutting off the roots and moving them from one place to another. I assumed that, but maybe I shouldn’t assume that everyone already knows what it actually means. It might be alright to assume that anyone who doesn’t know would look it up, for example on Wikipedia where it is explained as follows:
A grassroots movement is one that uses the people in a given district, region or community as the basis for a political or economic movement. Grassroots movements and organizations use collective action from the local level to implement change at the local, regional, national, or international levels.
Preliminary concepts
Given that explanation, I think it is now safe to assume that anyone can see that I was speaking figuratively, that “grassroots” was a metaphor that referred to the people at the local level. The great thing about using figurative language is that you can use it to communicate dynamic concepts that are important, without having to explain the exact mechanisms that make them work. However, it is important for an audience to understand the basic principles associated with the metaphor that is being used.
A principle is a fundamental truth (or a proposition that is assumed to be true) that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.
A grassroots movement is based on the basic principle or a proposition that when grass seeds are spread out on good soil, it will germinate and grow naturally. It is not called a grass seed movement because it doesn’t assume that all of the seeds will germinate. This is not an original metaphor. A great teacher once explained it as a parable of the Sower. He said that some seeds will fall along the path and the birds will eat them; some would fall on rocks where there was little soil. It would spring up quickly, but the sum would scorch it and it would wither because it had no root. Others would fall among thorns, which would grow up and choke the plants. But those that fell on good soil would produce a crop.
This grassroots movement assumes that the seeds that fall on good soil will grow roots and spread to ensure that the entire region or domain is eventually covered. The idea is that whatever is represented by the “grass,” which is the holomorphic process that operates freely and I will explain below, will become rooted in the culture. Fortunately, the yearning for personal liberty, to operate freely on a personal level, is already rooted in the hearts of all people, even if they have not actually experienced it themselves. If they haven’t, they may not know how to live independently as a self-controlled unit, which means as an individual or a family, with a way to make a living that allows them to be self-sufficient and self-sustaining.
The basic principle and strategy
The second meaning of the word holomorphosis is the about the basic principle that allows multiple independent parts to come together to form a closed-loop feedback system. By understanding the three basic components and their functions, people can develop the symbiotic relationships that allow the system as a whole to become self-controlled, self-sustaining and self-correcting. These are the basic characteristics of any living organism, and all mechanical and electrical systems that work in automatic. How this process works is well understood in science and especially engineering.
That brings us to the strategy that I hope to employ in Operation Holomorphosis. By explaining why, and illustrating how they are also the basic characteristics of the body-mind system, which everyone has and can relate to, anyone who can read and understand it will be able to translate it to any other system. They can choose systems that the people in their local district, region, community or organization are most familiar with, and explain how the exact same process makes things those things work in automatic. The end-goal is to allow everyone to see for themselves that this is also how the self-governed systems that we call government are supposed to work. They will be able to see exactly how they personally fit in the system, whether they are US citizens or not, and they will be able to serve their purpose as part of the greatest superorganism the world has ever seen. That superorganism is the whole we call Mankind.
